London Symphony Orchestra
This is one of the last opportunities to see Sir Simon Rattle in action before he moves back to Germany. Schumann only wrote one piano concerto, but it was written to express his deep love for his wife, Clara and this is also apparent in the overture which opens the evening. Rachmaninov’s inspiration was very different, having been exiled from his home country and exploring what it meant to be in a new world.
